I talked with Bob Hopkins about the idea and he said one of the most profound things I have heard about success. Some people have great achievements, amassed fortune and fame, but I know a mother who has raised a family of children who are really active in their community. She has many grand children and is happy and content in life. So what is success?
I thought achievements, career and wealth were the measures that really counted. I have achieved much in my career with IBM and my business after medical retirement. I was proud of becoming a third level manager and all of the projects I completed. But when I needed a medical leave from IBM it was just like taking your finger out of a glass of water. IBM went on and I wasn’t even missed. If I call today nobody at IBM even knows that I was there. My memories of my career are as spotty as my climb to the top. I lived in many different places, met many really good people, gained a lot of acquaintances, and moved on. Long term friendships are not developed when you never really socialize with those around you. So life achievements are not an example of success.
I think the answer lies in having, “A Satisfied Mind” like the old Porter Wagner song.
In my mind today the contented grandmother has Success!!

Yes, I know, I have used "I" too many times, but it is my opinion. (notice, there are two "i",s in opinion.)
