Berschauer Genealogy II
Dedication
This book is dedicated to my Father, Phillip Adolf Berschauer, who encouraged me to continue the Berschauer Genealogy research, and my loving wife Sherry Lee Martin-Berschauer who put up with the hours and hours of research time and resources I poured into my hobby. She also assisted me so that I could attend Berschauer reunions and meet many wonderful people.Acknowledgements
First of all I have to thank Aunt Eva for the many tireless hours she spent organizing information for The Berschauer Genealogy. Without this book and the information behind it there would not been a place to start.Secondly, Brent Mai, Professor at Purdue, has been of tremendous assistance as well as encouragement in my project. He has persuaded, cajoled and twisted my arm at times to be patient and verify the sources of my genealogy information. I have a quote in this book from him about one of my assumptions. "A leap of faith" as he put it!
Third, there was Ron Berschauer who got me started with the Washington Berschauers, Donald and Dorothy Berschauer sent me photographs of Henry Sr. and family, Edward and Lydia and Jacob John and family. He continued to help by sending translations of the last letters received from Kratzke. Henry Berschauer who assisted in getting the senior Berschauers together, and all of the information shared by all of the family members in Washington. And then there was Andy Berschauer who always responded to email questions from me. David and Colleen Berschauer have also helped with things as simple as, "What should we bring to the pot-luck picnic?" and as difficult as identifying the pictures we took at the picnics. I can not list all of the people from Washington who have helped me, but thank you to everyone.
Fourth, the Berschauers in WaKeeney, Kansas. They were the first I reached out to and they responded with complete Genealogy listings of their line and photographs of family reunions.
Fifth, Don Berschauer in Phoenix, Arizona sent me Genealogy of his family line, actually my family line. His Grandfather is my Grandfather's brother.
My latest and very exciting helper is Viktor Berschauer from Freiburg Germany. He represents a line of Berschauers that connect to us in the mid 1800's. The head of his ancestor's was my Great Grandfather's brother. The tie got certain when we found that Georg married Eva Mai. Both were born in 1847 and were listed as unattached in Pleve's research. It was a very common practice when, for instance, a Mai boy marries a Berschauer girl, and in the same family a Berschauer boy marry a Mai girl. Besides this common practice for two generations before my Great Grandfather in the past Berschauers had married Mais. We have found the connection between these families. This family along with many others voluntarily relocated to Siberia in 1913 during the Stolypin-Reform.
We have met so many wonderful people. Of course I am prodigious. This has been a wonderful experience.
Bob L. Berschauer
PS:
Axle Schäfer assisted me in translating some difficult text.
His curiosity and persistence found these interesting facts:By: Axel Schäfer, Deutschland - I was curious about Stolypin and looked up the encyclopedia:
"Pjotr Arkadjewitsch Stolypin born Dresden 1862 died Kiew 1911 Minister of the Interior in Russia since 1906. The aim of his reform was to stabilize the social conditions in the villages in order to get more economically healthy farmers."
